What ducted systems have you installed in Glass House Mountains?
We have installed ducted systems in Glass House Mountains homes. They included a Fujitsu 12.5 kW system, a Gree 16 kW system and 12.5 kW Mitsubishi Electric systems. The Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric jobs used AirTouch 5 zone control. All were home installs.
The Gree job was a 16 kW system, which is the size where return air needs more attention. The Mitsubishi Electric jobs were 12.5 kW systems fitted with the AirTouch 5 control system. The Fujitsu job was also 12.5 kW with an AirTouch 5 upgrade. In each case the brand and size followed the home, not a fixed package.

Do you quote ducted air conditioning in Glass House Mountains without a visit?
No. We book a free site inspection first, then fix the quote after it. Most Sunshine Coast homes land between $11,000 and $18,000 installed, depending on home size, zones and roof space. Larger homes can reach about $22,000. The inspection is how we get an exact price.
At the inspection we look at the roof space, where the indoor ducts can run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how many rooms need their own zone. You get a fixed quote after that. If finance helps, we offer humm, always subject to approval by humm. Call 1800 335 828 to arrange a time.
How big does the return air grille need to be on a 16 kW system?
On 16 kW and above we use a 900 x 550 return grille. For 10 to 14 kW ducted the rule of thumb is 900 x 500. The return grille is how the system draws air back, so an undersized one hurts airflow across every zone.
These are rules of thumb, and we confirm them at the inspection against the actual ceiling and roof space. A 16 kW system like the Gree we installed in Glass House Mountains sits in the larger grille category. Getting the return right is part of an installation done properly. How do you decide between a 12.5 kW and a 14 kW system?
We add up the heat load of every zoned room at about 150 W per square metre, then size at about 70% of that total. A 12.5 kW suits 5 zones, about 120 m2 of zoned rooms. A 14 kW suits 6 zones, about 130 m2.
The 5 zone home is 4 bedrooms plus an open kitchen, living and dining. The 6 zone home is the same with a media room or similar. The 70% figure works because the zones are never all running flat out at once. The inspection then adjusts for insulation, glass, ceiling height and orientation. Most of our Glass House Mountains installs were 12.5 kW systems, which fits the typical five zone home.
