Nambour sits in the hinterland foothills, away from the sea breeze that takes the edge off the coastal suburbs. Summer days run hotter and the nights stay warm. The housing is older too: timber Queenslanders, post war homes and brick family homes in Burnside and the streets around the town centre. That makes design more important here than almost anywhere on the coast.
- Area: Nambour, Burnside and the surrounding hinterland streets
- Housing: timber Queenslanders, post war homes, brick family homes and some newer estates
- Climate: hotter days and warmer nights than the coastal suburbs, with no sea breeze
- Common checks: roof clearance, ceiling height and switchboard capacity
Can you install ducted air conditioning in an older Nambour home?
Usually, yes. In a timber Queenslander the ducts can often run through the roof space, and in some high set homes underneath the floor. We check the roof framing, the clearance and the ceilings first, because older homes vary a lot, and we tell you plainly if a home is better suited to split systems.
High ceilings are common in older Nambour homes. They hold more air, so they need more capacity and careful outlet placement, so the cool air reaches where people actually sit and sleep.

Does my switchboard need upgrading for ducted air conditioning?
Sometimes. A ducted system needs its own circuit and an isolator, and an older switchboard may not have the room or protection it needs. We check the board at the inspection, and if work is needed it is in the quote. Our own licensed electricians do it, so there is no second trade to organise.
Finding this at the inspection, not on installation day, is what keeps the price fixed.

What size ducted system does a Nambour home need?
As a starting point, a four bedroom home with open living suits about 12.5 kW across five zones, or 14 kW with a sixth zone. We allow about 150 W per square metre for each zoned room and size at about 70 percent of the total. In Nambour the inspection often lands higher, because of the heat, the ceiling heights and older insulation.
An undersized system in Nambour runs flat out through every hot afternoon and never quite gets there. Sizing properly from the space is worth more here than on the coast.
What happens on installation day?
Our crew fits the indoor unit in the roof space or under the floor, runs the insulated ductwork, cuts in the outlets and return grille, mounts the outdoor unit and installs the controller. Our electricians do the circuit and isolator. We commission and test the system and show you how to use it before we leave.
Older homes need more care with access and finishes, and we allow for it in the timing we give you.
