Coolum Beach homes range from older beach houses a street back from the sand to renovated family homes and new builds around Yaroomba and Point Arkwright, with plenty of holiday homes in between. Humid nights, salt air and homes that are not always occupied all shape the right ducted system here. Our general guide to air conditioning in Coolum Beach covers split systems; this one is about ducted.
- Area: Coolum Beach, Yaroomba, Point Arkwright and Mount Coolum
- Housing: older beach houses, renovated family homes, new builds and holiday homes
- Coastal: salt air is the main thing that shortens an outdoor unit's life here

Is ducted air conditioning a good fit for a Coolum Beach home?
For a family home or a holiday home with a usable roof space, yes. Zoned ducted cools the whole house quietly from ceiling outlets, keeps the walls clear, and lets you run only the rooms in use. Older beach houses with low pitched roofs need a proper look first, because roof clearance decides where the indoor unit can sit.
Renovations are a good time for ducted in Coolum: if the ceilings are coming down anyway, the ducts, drains and power can run before they go back up, the same way we work on a new build.

How do you protect an outdoor unit from the salt air in Coolum?
We place the outdoor unit out of the direct sea breeze where the site allows, keep clearance for airflow, and can add an anti corrosion treatment to the unit. The biggest factor over the years is maintenance: a regular service that washes the coil and checks the casing and fixings keeps salt from building up.
Within a few streets of the beach, we recommend a service at least once a year, before summer. It is the cheapest way to get the full life out of the system.

How should zoning work in a Coolum holiday home?
In a holiday home, zoning does two jobs: it lets guests cool only the rooms they are using, and with a controller such as AirTouch 5 it lets you check and switch zones from your phone. That means the house can be cooled before guests arrive, and nothing is left running in empty rooms after they go.
For homes that are let short term, we keep the controls simple and label the zones clearly, so guests do not need a manual.
What size ducted system does a Coolum Beach home need?
A four bedroom Coolum home with open kitchen, living and dining usually suits about 12.5 kW across five zones, or 14 kW with a sixth zone. We allow about 150 W per square metre for each zoned room and size at about 70 percent of that total, then adjust for glass, insulation, ceiling height and the sea breeze at the inspection.
Older beach houses often have less insulation and more glass than their size suggests, so the inspection can land higher than the floor area alone would say.

Why choose Delta Temp in Coolum Beach?
We have installed 1,000+ systems across the Sunshine Coast, with our own licensed crew doing the air conditioning and the electrical. Every installation carries our 10 year workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturer warranty (Fujitsu 5 years and Hisense 7 years parts and labour), and the quote is fixed after a free inspection.
