How long does the install itself take once the crew arrives?
For a typical Sunshine Coast home, a ducted system takes about two to four days on site. The crew runs the main duct and branch ducts through the roof space, fits the indoor unit, cuts in the ceiling outlets and return air grille, installs the outdoor unit, then runs refrigerant pipe, drain and wiring. Last comes commissioning, where the system is tested and balanced.
A compact single storey home with good roof access sits at the short end. Two storey homes, low or cramped roof spaces, more zones and tight outdoor unit locations push toward the long end. Electrical work, such as a dedicated circuit or a switchboard upgrade, can add time.
What happens before installation day?
The first step is a free site inspection. We look at the roof space, insulation, glass, ceiling height and orientation, and work out where the indoor and outdoor units can go. The quote is fixed after the inspection, so the scope is settled before anyone climbs into your roof.
Once you accept the quote, the job is booked in. The wait between acceptance and install depends on equipment availability and the install schedule at the time. Ask for a date when you accept the quote rather than assuming one.
How long does a split system installation take?
A single split is much quicker. Most are done in one day, because the job is one indoor unit, one outdoor unit, a short pipe run, wiring and a drain. Most single splits land between $2,000 and $3,700 installed, and the largest 8 to 9.5 kW units reach about $5,200, depending on size, brand and the install.
Long pipe runs, brick or double brick walls, two storey homes and new electrical circuits can stretch that. A multi room job with several splits takes longer than one unit.
What can slow an air conditioning installation down?
The usual culprits are poor roof access, a very low roof space, insulation that has to be moved, a switchboard that needs work, and a late change to the zone layout. Equipment availability can also affect the start date. Roof work is also paused in storms, which the Sunshine Coast gets plenty of in summer.
Most delays are avoidable. Clear access to the roof hatch, the switchboard and the outdoor unit location helps a lot. So does settling your zones and return air position at the inspection, not on install day.
